When I think of the village I will always think of Crosby Connection and it’s three different locations. I first started getting sandwiches there when I worked at the old Citi Habitats location on Great Jones street in 2002. I wold see people lining up at the tiny storefront on Crosby Street and couldn’t believe that they were making sandwiches that were that good out of that location. After my first meatball hero with the shmear of ricotta I was sold.
Maybe, it’s just me and to be fair I’ve only visited their latest location in the Bleecker Street Theater twice but the sandwiches just didn’t taste they like they used to. To be honest, nowadays if I’m in the general vicinity I would much rather have a sandwich from Alidoro or Alleva than the Crosby Connection. It tasted like something was missing. The Suzy special ($6) was still packed with prosciutto, fresh mozzarella, fresh tomatoes, sweet roasted peppers, avocado, basil, olive oil and balsamic vinegar but something was off. Perhaps it was the bread they’re using or hard avocados? I’ll still always have a soft spot in my heart for The Crosby Connection and if you’ve never visited, I highly recommend that you do as they still make a hell of a sandwich for $6.
