Simply The Best Post #6 (Baseball Caps Aka Fitteds)

I would say that from age 13 to about 23 (when I got my first full-time job) I rocked a baseball cap everyday. Not fitteds of course at first because I started in about 92′ when Starter was on and popping. My favorites around that time were a UNLV hat (I was a huge fan during the Running Rebel’s heyday and was subsequently thrilled when the Knicks drafted Greg Anthony, bust) Mets hats and when HYP started dropping hats that were unaffiliated with teams I dug those as well. The graff crew I was part of and ran with in high school was called FB (Forever Blunted) so when Fubu dropped even though I found the line whack, you can probably imagine how dope it was to rock the hats and I even went out and copped a knit sweater.

My mother always said that wearing a hat all time would make me go bald and I laughed. Well……I’m not bald but it seems as if my hairline started to recede a bit when I was about 24 and seems to have permantly stopped in it’s subsequent tracks, whether or not this is due to rocking fitteds or is because of genetics I know not but I do know that at ripe 30 years old that my days of wearing any sort of baseball cap has decreased significantly. Don’t me wrong here I have about 10-12 New Era’s that I really like and when they match up nicely with kicks and my shirt. I’ll throw one on, brim straight,  bill side out, sticker shiney tilted a little bit to the left. Nowaadays I really perfer rocking the small assortment of Gucci, Fendi, Diesel, Supreme and Prada knit and ski caps that I have during the fall and winter months….But for all my boys and fans of classic baseball and New Era fitted caps, let me go through the five I have that I like the most.

1.-Acapulo Gold “Gucci Swirl”  Fitted - In case I haven’t said enough about this, Acapulco Gold is probably my favorite all around luxury street brand , with Crooks and Castles, right behind. The series of tee shirts, skate decks and sweatshirts they made with Spit tagged over top designer logos (Chanel, LV and MCM included) was brilliant and I own three of those t-shirts and two of the sweatshirts. As soon as I saw this hat previewed on line I ran down to Union in Soho to see if it was available. It wasnt but they claimed that they expected the shipment soon and to keep checking every day. Finally about two weeks later while at my office on Wall Street (I’m not involved in the stock market btw) I called in and they told me that they just received the shipment. I rushed over and picked up the cap that you see above and then picked up lunch at La Esquina for my coworkers for covering up my little midday trip when the boss called. Besides just loving the simple AG logo what really makes this one special to me is the double G Gucci stitching under the bill with the swirls. This is a beautifully made hat with amazing detail.

2. Caviar Cartel by SSUR -I got this cap not too long ago and some of you might remember that I featured it as my “purchase of the week.” It has really grown on me. I think that the Cartier style scripting is beautiful, I love the colors and detailing under the bill and anyone who seems me in this wants to know where I got it and who made it.

3. Crooks & Castles “Rabid Raccoon Mascot” – How hot is this one? Mets color, an angry raccoon and “Can’t Stop The Crooks” sewn into the side. There’s a good reason why Crooks and Castles keeps expanding and their accessories and clothing sells out immediately. They are either at the top of the street wear game or inching closer everyday. I have a very nice collection of their clothing (mainly t-shirts) and I plan to show it all here one day.

4. New Era Hater – The first dude I ever saw rocking a New Era Hater cap was Sheist Bubz of Purple City/Diplomat fame. He had a red one with the font a little different than the one I have. I love the colors, especially because they match pretty nicely with the neon 95 Air Max’. New Era had the foresight to put this out before Maino’s “Hi Hater” took the city over for a couple of months. Sometimes I am a hater and sometimes I’m not and now everyone can know which mood i’m in by the hat that I’m wearing. This hat might have been higher up on the  list if not for the blank, black back which makes anyone look like dick head if you decide to rock it backwards.

5. Dave’s Quality Meat Purple Polka Dot – DQM has been one of my favorite street wear brands for a good while now. Besides putting out well priced t-shirts and quality limited edition goods, the salespeople are really friendly and they have a great selection of kicks and usually carry those ultra exclusive SB’s. Everything has to match right for me to throw this guy on but I love the light blue D against the white panel and purple polka dots. Crazy fresh
