Beat Of The Day (Men At Work)

men at work

This is a song my cousin and I used to love as we come up during the MTV era. It’s by Men At Work an Australian reggae inspired rock band that really fell off after a few chart topping singles in the 80′s. What’s strange about this song to me is that I’ll talk to people about the song now and they usually see it completely differently than myself. To me it’s an extremely eerie ode to paranoia and agoraphobia and other people I’ve met just look at is a senseless early 80′s pop ballad. I think when one explores early 80′s pop (or the early MTV era) it’s tough not to see how much confusion and bewilderment there was both with a new way to deliver music and the real fear of the cold war…..That’s just my opinion though but you can bet I’ll be playing a lot of the music that I liked during this time period, I literally grew up on MTV watching it hardcore from 84′ to 92′ (my age 5 to 13.) Oh, also stay tuned for throwback Thursdays where Ill be posting a vintage video that I really like and the reasons why. Thank all of you for checking in and making this week the blog’s most successful thus far.
