You, my friends will have to forgive me but I don’t feel like going into a diatribe about Queensbridge rapper Lakey The Kid. Basically the story goes like this: Lake shot a dude who QB had beef with and not only did the cat survive but wound up snitching on Lake. Lake did seven years in the bing and Nas shouted him out On Illmatic’s Represent. Lake came home, started chilling with Nas and put out a classic album comprised solely of colloborations between different QB artists (even those who used to have or had current beef with each other.) Lake eventually got pissed off at Nas and redid a version of Jada’s why with questions directed towards Nas…..Then Suge Knight signed Lakey to Death Row East which was supposed to be a east coast branch ou of the infamous and basically defunct Death Row records. Suge wound up going bankrupt or whatever and a whole bunch of joints that were supposed to be on Lake’s album wound up leaking and appearing on mix tapes. After that Lake teamed up with his man Cormega (a dude who was also from QB who did time as well) on My Brother’s Keeper and since then is in the midst of starting up a new rap group. A lot of my boys don’t really like Lake but when I first heard Crushed Linen I was pretty mesmerized. I think this joint was supposed to be on his Death Row album but what do I know….Actually I do know that this track is as thugged out as music can be and everytime it comes up on shuffle on my Ipod I listen to the whole fucking thing and then usually restart it. Enjoy!
