Beat Of The Day (The Firm) Chris Post #3

cover

The Firm. Not much to say. What could have really been if they took it seriously? What if Mega was there and not Nature? What if both of them were involved? What if they took the time to make it the classic it should have been? What if they put Everyday Thing and Time on the album? We will never know. As a huge Nas fan, and by extension, a huge AZ and Mega fan, I can only dream of a day where the 3 of them make at least one more track together. As we all know, Nas and AZ have made a few classic joints together, and even AZ and Mega made, what I think, is a classic joint in Redemption off Mega’s Legal Hustle album. I really did like the early Nature stuff, especially the freestyles with Nas on the Clue tapes, and his first album, but if you ask me, they should have kept Mega around and never bothered with Nature. It’s not even close.

In any event, I remember the day Max and I went to copp The Firm tape. It was early in our freshman year at Hofstra and our mutual friend John drove us to Roosevelt Field mall to copp. What a huge let down. And as the resident Nas stan, I caught a lot of flack from all our boys and I can distinctly remember trying to defend this release, but really, to no avail.

As stated earlier, there were joints that were left off that certainly would have made this album better. The aforementioned Everyday Thing, and Time, being two of them. But there was also the Desperados version that featured Nas, that before a white label became available, was only available on Clue’s Platinum Plus tape.

So, for me and Max and all the heads we used to chill with, here is The Firm’s Desperados, with Nas, without Clue drops. It’s funny how when this kid I know ripped the Executive Decisions White Label and sent it to me, it felt awkward to hear the joint without Clue, but looking at it now, I am glad to have a clean rip..

Enjoy..
