I used to work on Great Jones Street between Broadway and Lafayette so I’ve known about and have been eating at La Nueva Conquista forever. It’s a good, no frills Dominican hole in the wall that has no menu, ambiance or scene whatsoever. Basically you go in, pick a meat (pernil, roast chicken, stew, salmon etc) and then pick two sides (three kinds of rice, red or black beans, plantains, yuca etc) and it winds up costing $7.50. What you see above is a poor picture of a heaping container of roast chicken, white rice and red beans. You can get better and cheaper Dominican food in the Heights and through out Queens but the bottom line is that for being in Manhattan and specifically Soho, La Nueva Conquista isn’t halfway bad for a quick lunch.
