La Esquina (Burger Post #1)

Yes, I know I’ve been slipping big time on the burger portion of this blog. Actually I’ll be honest, I plan to make up for as time goes on. First off I really heart La Esquina. While I’ve never been in their dungeon, I’ve had more than enough lunches and late nights at their take out window and have hit up the cafe on more than a few occasions. I prefer their tacos or tortas to anything else but they also make a pretty slept on burger as well. The purist in me often wants beef, cheese, bun and ketchup but the hedonist cries for crazy toppings, fried onions and hot sauce. La Esquina bridges the gap between purity and hedonism for me.  The burger is large enough and cooked to order, when cheese is requested (as I requested this time) it is shredded and put on the bottom of the bun, the burger is topped off with lettuce, tomatoes, onions, avocado, pickled jalapenos and chiptole mayo. It’s a lot to eat. It costs $7.95 and doesn’t come with fries but for another $4.00 you can add plantains with salsa verde and cheese (I don’t recommend doing this). It’s not the first thing I would order at La Esquina (that would be a pollo torta) but once you get adjusted to the menu and try out some things make sure to give their burger a go at some point.

  1. I eat here on the regular for lunch. The bistec tacos are unreal..

  2. Almost everything they make is good. Try the sandwiches though, their my favorite tortas except for Tehuzingto near where Sumeet leaves and Los Portales in Astoria
